Due to wind speeds offshore being higher and direction being more consistent than on land, wind energy is the world’s fastest growing renewable energy type and Europe is the world leader in offshore wind power. The first offshore wind farm, Vindeby was installed in the south east of Denmark in 1991.
Wind turbines operate on a simple principle. The energy from the wind turns the propeller around (kinetic energy). The rotor is connected to the main shaft, which spins a generator and converts this mechanical power into electricity which then travels back to land through a series of cable systems that are buried in the sea floor.
CRC are able to assist with many integral stages of a project such as, the initial survey process to the actual installation. Thanks to the entire CRC fleet having shallow draft capabilities, we can operate inshore, nearshore and offshore to offer crew transfers, guard boats and cable laying support.
